It is December. The light is gone. We live in darkness. I go to work in the darkness and return home at the end of the day in the darkness. The dark air is cold, we are on the brink of winter. It is not altogether unpleasant, but there is a hint of danger in the crisp air. The danger is one big mother fucking storm that will slam down upon us, wrecking the roads, uprooting the power lines and causing havoc and mayhem on the highways.
We light candles in the dark of December, and we put up lights and decorate houses, not just a celebration of the birth of Christ, but something that goes much further back, to our days of pagan worship and belief. If we could light the night, we could keep away the evil lurking in the darkness, keep the harm from our homes and keep our children safe. We try to chase away the darkness with light, however sad and sorry that is. Apparently it is no longer socially acceptable to slaughter a goat or small child in the backyard to appease our gods.
Work, is well... work. it does not require much attention on my part to do well. I won a $1500 USD prize in an environmental contest the company sponsored. I put together my idea and proposal in about 30 seconds, it was about using renewable energy in the form of vertical axis wind turbines. The best part is that corporate will fund half the cost of the installation fee.
I have a couple of guys coming from Calgary on Monday to have a look at our facility and we will work together on a detailed technical submission. At least that will be interesting.
I am non Christmas shopping, which basically means I am not a Christian but I am using the season as a reason to buy things for people I love, a small way to show my love and appreciation of them. And anyway, I seriously totally freaking love shopping! Retail Therapy for women, let the men have their second world war.
Well, the darkness lingers, so have courage my love....
